How do I fix wide banding on the Callisto Printer?

Use the Die Leveling tool in Calibration Profiles to correct wide bands caused by uneven ink output from print dies.

The Callisto printer uses 14 stationary print dies, each factory-calibrated to deliver consistent ink levels for smooth imaging. If one die begins printing too light or too dark, you may see a wide horizontal band (about one inch tall) across the printed label.

This issue can be corrected using the Die Leveling tool within the printer’s Calibration Profiles.

Watch the video below for a full walkthrough of the die leveling process.

Adjusting Die Leveling

  1. On the Operator Panel, select:
Support Tools → Maintenance → Calibration Profiles

  2. Use the dropdown menu to select the calibration profile you want to adjust.

    • To create a new profile, select New / Save As, name the profile, and press OK.

  3. Select the Die Leveling tab.

  4. With CMYK Report selected, press Print to generate the quality report.

  5. Examine the report to identify the die number and color where the horizontal band appears.

Making Adjustments

  • Band appears across all colors:
Select the die number at the top of the column to adjust all colors together.

  • Band appears in a single color:
Select the grid cell for that die and color to adjust it individually.

Adjust as follows:

  • Band too dark → decrease the value using the down arrow.

  • Band too light → increase the value using the up arrow.

Always adjust values relative to the starting value.

  1. Press OK, then Apply/Save.

  2. Print another CMYK Report and evaluate the results.

Repeat adjustments until the banding is corrected.

NOTE:

  • Die leveling adjustments are media-specific and should be saved in a calibration profile.

  • If banding persists after adjustments, check printhead height and die alignment, as these settings are related.
