How do you remove and replace the toner cage on the Sirius?

Instructions and a video on how to remove and replace the Sirius toner cage (print cartridge set).

Removing the Sirius Toner Cage

The Sirius toner cage (called the print cartridge set in the manual) is the basket that holds all of the toners. You need to remove it to reach the ITU (belt unit), for example, when you replace the ITU or the waste toner box, or when you clear a paper jam. This video covers the steps for removing the toner cage.

Before You Begin: Spread some newspaper on a flat surface to set the toner cage on. Also have some extra paper ready to cover it. The toners must be kept out of the light. Light exposure can cause print quality problems.

Removing the Sirius Toner Cage

  1. Grasp the top cover open lever and open the top cover.

  2. Hold the toner cage by the handles on the basket and lift it straight up out of the printer.

  3. Set the toner cage level on the newspaper you prepared.

  4. Cover the toner cage with paper right away so the toners aren't exposed to light.

Note: Put the toner cage back in the printer as soon as you can. If the toners have been exposed to light and prints look faded or uneven, put the toner cage back, close the top cover and leave the printer unused for a few hours. If that doesn't fix it, replace the affected toner.

Replacing the Toner Cage on the Sirius

Replacing the Sirius Toner Cage

  1. Check that the ITU is installed and that both blue locking keys are turned clockwise to the locked position.

  2. Take the paper cover off the toner cage.

  3. Hold the toner cage by the handles on the basket and lower it into the printer until it sits level.

  4. Close the top cover by pressing on the top of the cover.

Caution: Only hold the basket handles while you reposition the toner cage, because you could pinch your fingers. Ensure that you are clear of the edges of the printer to prevent breaking the toner pins. Don't hold the LED head or the cover support while you close the top cover.

Troubleshooting

If the printer shows one of these messages after you replace the toner cage, open the top cover and check that every toner is seated:

  • "Print Cartridge Not Installed" (errors 6940–6944) or "Check Print Cartridge" (errors 3400–3404): A toner isn't fully seated. Push it in firmly and levelly.

    • If that does not clear the error, inspect that the green chip in the toner cartridge is present and that the toner pin is not bent and making contact with the cartridge.

  • "Invalid Print Cartridge Order" (error 7382): A toner is in the wrong slot. Put the toners back in the order shown on the display.
