When printing a file that includes both portrait and landscape pages, the landscape pages may:
- Print in the wrong orientation
- Appear shrunk to fit the page
- Print sideways across the page
- Look as if the printer is forcing portrait mode for all pages, while landscape pages are scaled down and rotated incorrectly
This issue is typically caused by:
- Outdated printer firmware, and/or
- Incorrect PDF printing settings in Adobe Acrobat
Solution
Step 1: Update the Printer Firmware
Make sure the 550cs is running the most current firmware available. Firmware updates improve page orientation handling and prevent scaling issues in mixed-orientation print jobs.
Step 2: Adjust Adobe Acrobat Print Settings (If Applicable)
If printing from Adobe Acrobat, confirm the following setting is enabled:
✅ Choose paper source by PDF page size
This allows Adobe to properly handle different page sizes and orientations within the same file.
NOTE: This issue is most common with PDFs that contain mixed page orientations.
If the problem continues after completing both steps, try printing the same file from an alternate PDF viewer to confirm whether the issue is application-specific.
