Why is the printer printing/repeating the same page over and over?  Why is the printer printing the same set of pages over and over?

If the printer prints one or more pages in a repeated pattern without stopping until the media is torn or the printer is shut down, the printer is in a bad state; however, this is recoverable with a printer reboot.

If a printer is repeatedly printing a single or multiple pages when it should not, the printer is in a bad state and needs to be rebooted.  This state does not mean it is broken or in need of maintenance.

Triggered by absense of Service Tray

A condition that triggers this repeated copies or repeated pages case occurs when the printer is booted up with the service tray (sled) removed or improperly installed.  If the printer is booted without the service sled, a motor stall will be declared and printing cannot occur.   Once the sled is installed, the motor stall will clear.

In printer versions before 3/2026, the following error occurs after this sequence of events, even though the printer is at the Printer Ready state.

  • Sending a print job causes the printer to declare "Page Gap Exceeded"

  • Canceling that job and clearing that error, then sending another print job causes the printer to print whatever is in "its buffer" repeatedly "forever."

    • If copies were sent, the single page is printed over and over.
    • If a sequenced job was sent, a set of sequenced pages is printed over and over.

The solution for this error state is to reboot the printer Bar-n-Box (BnB) component.  This is most easily done by shutting the printer down with the power button, waiting until the printer is completely turned off, and then booting up the printer.

Conclusion:

Do not Power off the Callisto printer without the service tray properly installed.

If a Callisto printer is ever powered up without a service tray installed, be sure to reboot the printer once the service tray has been installed.

Service Tray protects the Printhead

  • The service tray protects the printhead by "capping" it when the printer is idle.

  • Never leave the Callisto pinter in an uncapped state for extended periods of time.

  • Never shut down a Callisto printer without the service tray properly installed.

  • Never ship the Callisto printer without the service tray properly installed and the printhead capped by the service tray.
