ADVANCE SUPPORT: Why is the printer yanking media from me on a load? And then reversing it back out? And then reporting "Bad Media Load."
If the printer rapidly pulls or yanks the media on a load, followed by a quick reversing back out of the media, and Bad Media Load message, the scalar board is the culprit.
Callisto printers have a built-in board called a scalar board (or scaler board) that regulates the media speed. If this board becomes disconnected or corrupt, the speed regulation will be lost and the "scary media movement" will occur.
Depending on the version of the scalar board, the issue may resolve itself on printer reboot. Otherwise the board will need to be reprogrammed by a technical, or it will need to be replaced.
Scalar board resolves with printer reboot
If the scalar board is recent enough, a printer reboot will reload the scalar board firmware. If the reload is successful, no further action is needed.
- Power down the printer with the front power button.
- Wait at least 60 seconds
- Reboot the printer with the back switch.
- When the printer comes back up, try reloading the media to see if the problem is resolved.
Scalar board needs reprogramming or replacement
If the reboot is not successful, a technician will be needed. A special programming cable is required and will be supplied. Alternatively, a board replacement will be supplied. The scalar board is easy to replace. Contact Neuralog to see which is the better alternative.
