Why is the NT1000 printing strange characters?

Printer prints binary or garbage pages, even after a reboot

During well log printing, if a data disruption from the PC occurs, the printer may get into an error state and print binary or "garbage" characters.  These characters may even print after the printer power is cycled.

The printer is not broken.  It is emptying its internal memory buffer.

If this error state occurs, you must CANCEL the incoming job and clear the printer queue on the PC.  Otherwise, the PC may continue to feed the printer a corrupt data stream and the error will persist.  These steps will clear the printer's memory and stop the incoming data stream.

  • Turn off printer
  • Cancel any incoming jobs
  • Turn on printer
